Mark Thompson

Since the age of 6 I have been encouraged by my father to love the outdoors. My first experiences were in outraged by his love of hill walking and caving. My passions developed of kayaking, canoeing, climbing were developed through clubs and family friends. By the  age of 13 I was competing in K1 & 2 marathon races before venturing onto white water where my love of the sport has continued ever since.

My career path has flowed from an outdoor instructors' course, national governing body awards, employment at outdoor centres (PT, FT, and freelance), further educational studies including Outdoor Environmental Education at John Moores University in Liverpool (BA hon's degree), PGCE as a Geography teacher, and a Med (masters) in Leadership & management of OE school programs.

Besides the coaching, instructing and teaching, Personal advancement and experience has always remained key to my ability to stay current and my enjoyment of the sports. this has lead to skiing, climbing and mountaineering trips all over the Alps, whilst kayaking and canoeing trips have been to many European destinations as well as Kenya and Uganda.

As a teacher I am primal aged to offer young adults these experience and opportunities, starting them on there outdoor education And environmental experience. for my current school I run various field trip (rivers, coasts, glaciation! forest and sand une ecology), after-school and weekend trips (including; kayaking, canoeing, climbing, navigational skills, multi day expedition, multi sports weekends,  ski trips, behavior change programs and expedition charity work.

Being active in the outdoors has always been important to me. I have continued to paddle, climb and navigate as often as possible since first starting and now wish to support others starting out or those who want to progress in these sports.  The idea of Outdoor Performance Coaching was born from helping long term coaches to improve.
