Navigation

Navigation courses are designed and tailored to your needs, increasing your ability to perform in mountain environments, low level hill areas, moorland areas or in rural areas. Navigation courses draw from my experience to develop your skills and can including rope work on steep ground, micro navigation, triangulation, reading mountain weather, basic map reading skills and route planning or to introduce you to new navigation areas. Flexibility allows the clients’ needs to shape the course and with small client to instructor ratios you benefit from more feedback. Courses can be arranged for one-to-one sessions or small groups. Focuses can include personal skills, basic skills, taster sessions, family sessions, personal coaching, and day/ mountain trips.

Orienteering

Learning to master the art of basic Navigation. This is an ideal 1/2 day course for those wishing to explore or wanting a refresher course on basic skills/ micro navigation. Coaching will focus on the basics of map reading including some uses of the compass, spotting features and accuracy locate yourself. This is a great introduction to the navigation skills you will need to get out and about anywhere. This could also be undertaken as a fun family activity roaming in the wilderness.

Beginners Navigation/Mountaineering

Learning to master the art of Navigation will allow you to journey and adventure into wilderness areas without the dependence on satnavs. This is an ideal course for those wishing to explore or wanting a refresher course on basic skills. Coaching will focus on the basics of map reading including some uses of the compass, spotting features and your ability and accuracy at locating yourself once you have set off. This is a great introduction to the navigation skills you will need to get out and about anywhere. On completion of this course, participants will be able to plan and follow walks in low lying hills mainly along paths and tracks.

Intermediate Navigation

The Intermediate Navigation Course will help progress your map reading skills further. This course is designed for candidates who already have 1 to 2 years low level/ trail walking experience or for someone who may never have received any formal training but who has accumulated lots of walks and a odd mountain paths. If you have a bit of experience (self-taught) or are progressing from a beginner course, this is the next step for you.

This course will explore in depth compass skills, making you feel more at ease and allow you to walk bearing directions, triangulate your position and measure distance, so that if visibility is poor you still feel comfortable to proceed. On completion of this course candidates will be able to plan and follow walks in the countryside and low level moor land areas comfortably.

Intermediate Navigation/Mountaineering prices

Day Trips & Mountain Navigation

This course will be designed around your needs and will work on improving your skills further, enable you to feel confident navigating in any weather, in more remote and mountainous locations. This course is ideal for those who have already gained success at navigation of foot paths, moor land and low lying areas. This course can be tailored to your needs and take you to those more remote mountainous areas. Focus could include; being led (group or individual) in a mountain area, coaching of finer navigation skills, reading features and practicing navigation in a more exposed environment and coaching to hone the finer skills of finding micro features, pacing, timings, route finding.
